Free Tax Preparation Available for Eligible Residents from Community Action’s EITC Program

Feb 07, 2025

AKRON, OHIO (February 6, 2025) – This tax season, Community Action Akron Summit is once again offering free tax preparation and filing services through its Akron Summit Earned Income Tax Program.

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a vital benefit that reduces tax bills and can lead to refunds for important expenses, yet many who qualify are unaware or unable to claim it effectively.

Community Action's free tax preparation program enlists IRS-certified volunteers that provide comprehensive cost-free tax filing help to eligible residents. The program's preparers help eligible individuals assess their qualifications for the EITC and other credits, ensuring that area taxpayers receive the maximum benefits.

More than 83,000 federal and state returns have been completed for local residents since the Community Action program was launched in 2003.

Tax credit eligibility guidelines for Year 2024, include:

  • Families with three or more qualifying children who earned less than $59,899 in 2024 (or less than $66,819 for married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $7,830.
